Advancing Culturally Responsive Creativity in Gifted Education
Corey Gray

Description

When students’ cultural identities, lived experiences, and creative strengths are intentionally integrated into an educator’s instructional design, academic engagement and achievement become powerful byproducts (Gajda et al., 2017; Sternberg, 2023; Torrance, 1987). Yet, historically, many educational practices have privileged assimilation over affirmation, particularly for students from culturally and racially diverse backgrounds (Ford, 2021; Muhammad, 2020). This webinar introduces Culturally Responsive Creativity, a framework that intentionally integrates creativity-based teaching and learning practices within culturally responsive pedagogy (Gray, 2025). Aligning with research and classroom-based examples, Dr. Gray offers a brief historical overview of creativity’s role in the American educational system and provides practical tools, strategies, and design considerations for educators to cultivate the creative potential and cultural identity of every high-ability and high-potential learner.
