Educational attention to gifted students in rural environments is vital for the comprehensive development of students from remote geographic regions. This research project (consisting of various practices from mentoring to problem-based learning clusters to curriculum enrichment) was carried out at Rural School No. 25 in a multigrade classroom in Uruguay serving gifted students (whether identified or not).
Findings show that the multigrade classroom provided optimal opportunities for the gifted, raising the quality of education, expectations, and motivation of students. The Curriculum Enrichment program is very positive in rural environments, because it strengthens and expands teaching strategies, serves students’ potential and needs, and raises self-esteem of the student body.
