In this presentation, we examine the strengths and drawbacks we experienced when developing momentary time sampling observation tools using two different electronic data collection platforms: Qualtrics and REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture). We draw observations based on research projects in both gifted education (Project BUMP UP, funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Education Program; PR/Award #S206A190028) and special education (I-MTSS project, funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences; Grant #R324N180020). We present an example momentary time sampling observation form constructed on each platform, discuss the process underlying each build, and compare/contrast the resulting products in terms of feasibility of construction, cost, and utility.
